Recently, I toured a few resorts outside of Charleston and Savannah and was blown away by the Southern hospitality and beautiful scenery these stunning venues have to offer. First stop was Palmetto Bluff outside of Bluffton, South Carolina, a Montage resort and private community. What I love about Palmetto Bluff is it feels like your own little private village where your family and friends can make themselves at home and enjoy all the amenities the resort has to offer. The ceremony can take place in either the non denominational chapel on-site or anywhere throughout the gorgeous property. The reception can be held inside the ballroom or under a tent on the main lawn in the center of town. Currently, the ballroom and chapel hold approximaetly 120 people, however, a brand new hotel, chapel, and ballroom are currently under construction and slated to be complete by summer/fall 2017! Palmetto Bluff is perfect for a destination wedding where your guests can unwind, relax, and enjoy all that the low country has to offer in a sophisticated and modern southern setting. Located just 1.5 from Charleston, I know I will be back sooner rather than later!
Ford Plantation was next on the list and as soon as I arrived, I was mesmerized by the enchanting trees lining the entrance to the stunning property. Both a private community and event venue, this little gem feels like you’re throwing a party in the backyard of your very impressive plantation home with sweeping views of the Ogeechee River…not too shabby. Originally a winter retreat for industrialist Henry Ford, this venue is chock-full of history and charm. As soon as you arrive, you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time and are instantly transported to a slower life set amongst a quintessential southern landscape. The ceremony typically takes place in the grand front lawn leading up the house, cocktails overlooking the pool and river, and dinner under a tent on the back lawn. Looking forward to working at this very special place sometime soon!
Our last stop was Sea Island, Georgia. Of all of the venues I visited, this felt the most like a resort and less like a community where you know you’ll be pampered and treated to lots of good ole’ southern hospitality. There are several venues on-site to choose from to host your event. The Cloister is the main hotel and most popular wedding site with two ballrooms and an adorable non denominational chapel set amongst lots of cascading Spanish moss and gardens. The Beach Club is just across the street and offers an indoor space, The Ocean Room, and lawn where you can host your event under a tent. Lastly, the Lodge is a more casual venue that is perfect for a rehearsal dinner or groomsmen lunch. As you meander through the winding pathways, enjoy the sunset overlooking the beach, or get lost amongst the many gardens, you’ll instantly fall in love with Sea Island and all of its magic.
